The Lab: Cross-Sector Collaboration Skills for Creatives and Cultural Practitioners

Finding the right partner, describing your work in a language someone from a different field can understand, and building collaborations where all sides see the value is a skill on its own.

In this workshop, Abbas and Sebastian, a designer, curator and facilitator and a former physicist turned facilitator and leadership coach,  use their own ongoing collaboration as a live case study. Two people from genuinely different disciplines working together: What it takes, where it gets uncomfortable, and what makes it worth it.

Over two hours, participants will:

  • Map their own practice through a disciplinary lens:
What discipline are you actually in, and what are its boundaries?

  • Spot the overlaps:
Where does your practice create value for people outside it, and where do your values and theirs actually align?

  • Translate their practice:
Find a language to bring outsiders into your creative process without diluting it.

  • Practice the collaboration itself:
The practical and mental sides of working across sector lines, including role-play exercises.

Participants leave with a clear idea of how to position their practice and value proposition for cross-sector partners, and a framework that helps them map suitable collaborations where all sides benefit.
