Tempered Futures - performance and research project

  • STPLN Malmöhusvägen 5 211 18 Malmö Sweden (map)

Welcome to a visual art/dance performance exploring AI, dance, democracy and imagining futures!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become omnipresent in our daily lives, yet we remain uncertain whether it is friend or foe. Debates on students’ use of ChatGPT are often condemned, while university staff are encouraged to embrace the same technology to refine their own work. Facial-scanning software in airports, malls, and other public spaces relies on emotive categorizations of human faces, frequently privileging lighter skin tones. Language-model AIs are now used as therapists, even as reports of “ChatGPT psychosis” are on the rise. Through dance and visual artistry, this performance explores these contradictions and discomforts surrounding AI in everyday life, prompting us to reflect on how such technologies intersect with our ideals of fairness, equality, and justice—the cornerstones of democracy.

Audience members are welcome from 18:00 on December 12 at STPLN, and the performance will begin at 18:30. The evening opens with the visual work of Simon Rydén, followed by a dance performance by Anna Näsström, and concludes with a brief lecture by Caroline Adolfsson (PhD). The performance will be followed by a mingle.
