The Poetic Phonotheque is pleased to announce Nature & Culture 2026: International Poetry Film Festival, taking place this October and November in Copenhagen, Denmark; Malmö, Sweden; Helsinki, Finland; and Calgary, Canada.
Nature & Culture brings together poetry films, animation, short and experimental films, and documentaries from filmmakers around the world. Throughout October, an online digital festival will feature 100 films, followed by live events in each of the four host cities, starting with Helsinki on October 10th, and continuing with live events starting on Nov 1st in Malmö and continuing throughout November in Copenhagen and Calgary. Each live festival will present a curated selection of 30 films alongside poetry readings, filmmaker talks, workshops, and opportunities for conversation and connection.
The festival brings together filmmakers, poets, artists, organizations, and communities to explore humanity’s relationship with our planet through film, focusing on the poetic language (visual, auditive, and multimedia) used to convey these messages. The festival creates opportunities for international collaboration while building connections between local communities across borders.
Worldthreading in spirit, the festival uses community organizing and imagination to create global connections, and a place to listen to important stories from around the world, projected through the lens of poetry. The project and films are documented by Red Door Magazine, and the entire selection of 100 films selected for this year’s festival can be seen for free at www.poeticphonotheque.com
